Service Sunday

Union Congregational Church of Groton is hosting a community-wide Service Sunday event on Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

All are welcome to join us for our Sunday morning worship service at 10:00 a.m. where we will be hosting a ‘Blessing of the Backpacks.’ Filled with school supplies, these backpacks will be distributed from 11:30 a.m. to 3:300 p.m. to pre-registered families. Join us for a free lunch (burgers, hot dogs, veggie options) and ice cream, enjoy some yard games for kids, and meet some new folks. Donations are being collected for several of our local non-profit partners: Loaves & Fishes, Catie’s Closet, and Common Cathedral / City Reach.

Loaves and Fishes is a local food pantry serving Ayer, Devens, Dunstable, Groton, Harvard, Littleton and Shirley. Their mission is to provide nutritious food, in an atmosphere of kindness and respect, to individuals in need. For more information, including a list of most-needed items, click here.

Catie’s Closet is a non-profit that helps 80,000 kids in the area get what they need to feel awesome and stay in school. They are in 120 schools and growing fast. With Catie’s Closet, kids have higher attendance rates and higher graduation rates. All of this makes our world a better place. For more information, and a list of suggested donations, click here.

Common Cathedral / City Reach – For years, our church youth have collected donations for the unhoused community in Boston, and attended City Reach, where they learn directly from those experiencing homelessness. On Service Sunday, we will be collecting $5 and $10 gift cards to Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds and CVS, which will be brought to Common Cathedral for use in its Street Ministry Program. We hope you will join us, and can’t wait to see you!
