Upcoming and Recurring Events

For the first six weeks of 2023, our Interim Minister, Rev. Corey Sanderson, will be traveling to India and Sri Lanka to build partnerships with the National Council of Churches in India and the Church of the American-Ceylon Mission in Sri Lanka. He will also be meeting with leaders of many other religious traditions and humanitarian needs focused Non-Profit organizations. While access to internet will be limited, he will send occasional updates. We’ll include these updates in the weekly Union Digest email, so be sure to subscribe here. Corey is excited to share more photos and stories of his overseas adventures when he returns! He is already planning a special Sermon & Worship Series for Ash Wednesday, the six Sundays of Lent, and Easter Sunday that will include some stories and vignettes from his overseas trip.

Thursday Morning Bible Study: Thursday Mornings, 10:00am, in the Parlor
The Thursday Morning Bible Study is led by Marvin Caldwell. This is a divergent group of people who use the Bible as a baseline. Conversations explore the meanings that lie in the text for us.  Conversation is lively and respectful.  We welcome all who want to share interpretation and application of our Scriptures.

Themes in Thirty – Thankfulness: Sunday, January 8, 2023, Following Worship in the Parlor

Book Study Series on “Demystifying Disability: What to Know, What to Say, and How to Be an Ally”: Tuesdays January 10, 17, and 24, 2023, 7:00 p.m. on Zoom
We all have people with disabilities in our lives and we have them in our church as well. But many of us—disabled and nondisabled alike—don’t know how to act, what to say, or how to be an ally to the disability community. Join us in a thoughtful conversation using this practical guide for how to be a better advocate. The book can be purchased by clicking here. The zoom link will be included in our Friday Union Digest emails, or you can email the church office to request the link.

Life is a Song Potluck and Games: Sunday, February 12, 2023, Following Worship in the Fellowship Hall
The choir would love you to join us in a pot luck after church to eat and then play the board game “Encore”.  For those of you that don’t know what “Encore” is here is the official description: your team has to be the first to get to the end of the playing board track by remembering parts of songs containing a specific word or category. There will also be other table top games available for variety. Even if you don’t prefer games, just sign up for pot luck and enjoy the fellowship.

Book Study on “The Last Lecture”: Tuesday, February 15, 2023, 7:00 p.m. on Zoom
Please join us in a discussion about The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. This lecture was the summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It’s upbeat and humorous, alternating between wisecracks, insights on computer science and engineering education, and offering inspirational life lessons…It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of seizing every moment (because “time is all you have…and you may find one day that you have less than you think”). The book can be purchased by clicking here. The zoom link will be included in our Friday Union Digest emails, or you can email the church office to request the link.
