Serving on Sunday Mornings
Once people find they are comfortable here, they often ask “How can I get involved?” One of the easiest ways to serve the church is by volunteering on Sunday mornings. Some of the ways you can help include:
Worship Leadership – We know public speaking and being more visible isn’t for everyone, but some of our more extroverted folks enjoy volunteering as a greeter, usher, or reader. We ask that you arrive about 30 minutes before worship if you are filling one of these roles, but there is no real prep-work needed. To learn more about these roles and to sign up for an upcoming Sunday, click here!
Music Ministry – We have a wonderful Voice Choir and Handbell Choir which provide beautiful music during our services. Each have one weeknight rehearsal, with the Handbell Choir performing about six Sundays a year and the Voice Choir performing on the other Sundays. For more information on our choirs, please click here. During the summer, both choirs take some time off and we welcome members and friends of the church to share their musical talents during worship. If you’d like to share a musical offering during the summer, please email the office.
Fellowship Hour Host – sign up to set up, serve, and clean up from Fellowship Hour. Instructions are provided, and you can either supply your own snacks and food, or ask the Kitchen Ministry to provide the food. You will need to arrive about 45 minutes before worship to complete the prep-work in time to attend worship. For more details, click here! If you are not able to host, but would like to donate snacks or food, please email the office.
Teaching Sunday School – On most Sundays during the school year, children from ages PreK through Grades 8 or 9 (pre-confirmation) head to Sunday School partway through worship. The classes are taught by volunteers on a rotating schedule. Each volunteer usually ends up teaching about once a month, using a curriculum that does most of the “work” for us. There is very little prep time needed.
Prayer Ministry
In order to enable a prayer concern/praise to be lifted up by many people relatively quickly through email, we utilize a confidential prayer chain. Email prayer@uccgroton.org and your request will go to the Confidential Pray-ers (a small group of church members who intentionally hold space and pray these requests each day or week). You can also email the church office to request that your prayer be printed in the bulletin and/or shared in our internal Facebook group. For privacy reasons, prayers will not be published without permission of the person we are praying for or their immediate family, however our Confidential Prayer group and Rev. Dr. Lawrence will be informed of any requests.
